Alicia Olave-Pichon, MD, MPH

Board Member

Dr. Olave-Pichon is a pediatric gastroenterologist. She completed her pediatric residency at the Puerto Rico Women’s and Children’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Currently, she is pursuing an Advanced IBD Fellowship at Stanford University. While studying at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health, Dr. Olave-Pichon worked at the Hispanic Center of Excellence and the Institute for Minority Health Research, where she witnessed the underrepresentation of Latino medical students and the lack of language-concordant healthcare services available to the Spanish-speaking community. These experiences led her to become a board member of the Chicago Medical Organization for Latino Advancement and fund the American Association of Peruvian Physicians (AAPP), where she has mentored Latino students and international medical graduates (IMGs) seeking to enter medical school and become practicing physicians in the US. Dr. Olave-Pichon is also part of the leadership team of the National Latino Physician Day (NLPD) movement, seeking to improve the quality of care of the Latino patient population by increasing the number of Latino physicians who provide culturally and linguistically concordant care.”
