DEPARTMENT CHAIR AND SURGEON-IN-CHIEF

The Department of Surgery at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Department Chair and Surgeon-in-Chief to lead academic, clinical, research, advocacy and administrative activities for the Department. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to oversee and lead transformational change by working collaboratively with hospital and medical leadership to plan, implement, evaluate and improve programs across the Department; oversee quality improvement and related initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance; and maintain productive relationships with our academic affiliate at the Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

Position Responsibilities:

The Surgeon-in-Chief reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team, supporting the design and implementation of leading-edge programs and processes that support our organizational mission, as well as the success of the Department. What are the requirements to apply?

Qualified candidates will have experience in leadership roles and hold the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor. The candidate must have their MD degree and be board certified in her/his subspecialty. Completion of a pediatric fellowship in the candidate’s subspecialty is preferred. In addition to clinical experience and a commitment to teaching, the successful candidate will have demonstrated scholarly activity in an area of clinical or basic science research. The successful candidate will meet these qualifications and be able to demonstrate a strong leadership style that includes excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills.
