Mentoring Up!
February 25 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Presenter: Ben Gerber, MD, MPH
I am a Professor, internist, mHealth researcher, data scientist, and Division Chief of Health Informatics and Implementation Science in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. Prior to 2021, I was a faculty member at the University of Illinois Chicago for 23 years. My research background includes design, development, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based (mobile health and telehealth) interventions that promote chronic disease self-management and healthy behaviors in diverse patient populations. I am passionate about mentorship.
I have experience mentoring undergraduate, graduate, medical student (including MD/PhD longitudinal mentorship), resident, fellow, and junior faculty members. Over the past 10 years, I have co-facilitated mentorship training for research faculty using the “Entering Mentoring” curriculum (from the Center for Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research, or CIMER). I routinely adopt these curriculum-based practices in my own approach to mentorship, including culturally aware mentoring. Finally, I actively support trainees during the early post-doctoral years. I co-direct the CardiOvascular Digital hEalth Research (CODER) T32 post-doctoral training program at UMass Chan.
