A huge congratulations to Dr. Pilar Ortega, MOLA’s President and Director of the Medical Spanish Taskforce, and Dr. Lisa Diamond, Assistant Attending Physician in the Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Service in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, for being awarded $149,971 for their project “Medical Spanish Proficiency Assessment: Evaluating Physician Communication with Spanish-speaking Patients in Medical Education Settings.” The project will be funded by the NBME Stemmler Fund. The NBME is the principal organization in charge of U.S. physician assessment examinations. Importantly, this project is the first-ever Stemmler-funded project related to assessing clinical skills in a language besides English, representing a huge step forward for equity-minded medical education. This is truly great news for our community! Read all about it here.
