This past April 2nd, we had our first Meet & Greet. Since 2019, we are honored to count on a partnership with the Michael Reese Research and Education Foundation for scholarship funds to provide scholarships for even more students and support their paths towards a successful healthcare career. In the virtual meeting, we had a chance to meet face-to-face with the Scholars, Mentors, and program faculty & staff! This was an informal gathering in which we got to know each other and could also address any initial questions about the program and schedule for the year.
The twelve scholars will connect with their mentors in the next two weeks to start working on their projects. The idea is they have the opportunity to present their research at the 6th MOLA Latino Health Symposium: Paving New Pathways/ Abriendo Caminos on October 7th and 8th. We have so much diversity this year and different project ideas including: Vaccine hesitation, Cancer health disparities, detection and treatment delays, Latinx patient education, LGBTQ in healthcare, Sexual Health, intervention in latinx communities to improve health outcomes regarding ophthalmology conditions, Stigma and mental health disparities, Community Health Clinic and benefits of dance. The MOLA-MRF Scholars Program is a meaningful investment in the talent needed to address health inequities. MOLA-MRF Scholars will also be the future leaders that will move forward MOLA’s mission of addressing the health needs of Latinos with the most need in Chicago and beyond. Welcome 2022 Scholars!
