We are excited to announce that the registration for the rater training course for the Physician Oral Language Observation Matrix (POLOM) is now open! 

Course information

• Intended audience: The course is intended for individuals interested in becoming verified POLOM raters as well as educators who use observed clinical encounters as part of their formative assessments during medical Spanish courses.
• Dates: The course will take place from May 6th 2024 through June 14th 2024.
• Modality: The course is fully virtual primarily asynchronous, meaning that most of the work is completed on your own time. Please note that approximately three 60-90 minute virtual Zoom meetings will be scheduled during the course dates.
• Expected time commitment: this is a 20 course-hours over 6 weeks. Note that the 20 course-hours does not include time for reliability testing to become a Verified POLOM Rater; time for reliability testing varies by individual and is expected to take approximately 8-10 hours (asynchronous).

Course requirements

The course requires that participants attest to having advanced or higher skills in both Spanish and English.

Course cost

The cost per participant is $5,000, with discounts available if there is more than one participant from a single institution.

Course capacity

Space is limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
