Are you a practicing primary care provider who currently refers patients to oncology/surgery for cancer care? The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society would like to interview you for an online training program they are developing as part of a study. The study, “Enhancing Access to Cancer Clinical Trials among Underrepresented Patients by Building the Capacity of Primary Care Providers: A Study of Novel Online Training Intervention,” will focus on preparing primary care physicians to a) support cancer patients during the referral process and b) encourage their inquiry about clinical trial participation when referrals are made. They are looking for PCPs who have a patient panel that includes a significant percentage of patients of color and are currently making referrals to oncology or surgical oncology. You would have to be willing to be interviewed on the phone for 10 minutes about how you prepare patients for the referral to oncology and if/how you mention clinical trials to those patients. Of course, they will provide an honorarium for your time. Their plan is to include parts of their interview in the course as “testimonials” in the course around the importance of the role in the PCP in ensuring quality care, including care within a trial.
